Big Data has been the new talk in technology these days. Big Data is a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications. As technology continues to advance, people become more reliant on technology to keep things in storage and just to do things faster. Big Data is a very dangerous thing and yet, it can be both a bad and good thing depending on the level of control we have over the amount of data that is storing information every day. Big Data has been a useful tool for research and the government. It is very useful to store new information that you might find out about in science since we are always discovering new things about the world we live in. Sometimes the large amount of information we collect can get too hard to keep so we rely on the never ending storage, data. Big Data is a very convenient storage for everyone to use. In our society right now, being fast and efficient is the pace that most people work in. It makes life easier for people to have the storage there to store your information anytime you want. Our dependence on technology and Big Data has become such a big part of everyone’s lives that it would be strange without it. But Big Data isn't always a good thing. In Big Data there is more and more personal information that can get stored since there is so much storage, but there is always a chance that the information can leak for some reason. Big Data makes people more comfortable with sharing information online. Also with so much data storage and more data getting stored, there can be a chance that it gets uncontrollable at some point and it might end up being revealed to everyone.

Paragraph on What my Webpage is!

            The webpage that I will make is going to be on Korean Music groups and singers. The front page will have an introductory page about Korean Music and the list of idol groups that you can click on to see what members there are and some information about them. There would also be information about the groups and some of their achievements. There might be some usage of graphs that will be used for some of the names and their information. There would also be pictures that will show who the idol is. There will probably be well over 10 groups Korean groups with information on it. The group that will be most focused on will be Girls Generation since they are my favorite groups. On the front page I want to make a side bar where you can click on the groups you want to look on the information about.

Chapter 1 Blown to Bits Summary

In the world today, everything is made up of bits. Bits are the pictures we see on the internet, the information we find, and the radio waves we use to talk on the phone with each other. With technological advancement happening so quickly in such a short amount of time, everything getting sent around the world faster than one person can think. Technology has become a part of people’s everyday lives for most people, and for stores who need to store information and keep record of everything that happens. Bits are made up of everything you can think of relating to technology. There is something called the Koans of Bits, which is 4 principles that describe what bits are. The first Koan talks about the fact that everything is made of bits. All the information you see on the computer, calling from your phone, or playing video games. The second Koan talks about bits being perfect. Whenever you send something from one place to another on the internet, the file will send the same exact copy. It is very rare that there would be a mistake during the transfer of the file and the chances are very slim. The third Koan is that there are plenty of bits available everywhere now. Hard drives and memory storage are growing in incredible rates every year, having the capacity to store more and more bits in computers. The use of the internet has grown in incredible rates where sources and information is getting easier and easier to access. The fourth Koan is that processing is power. The power of processing has grown at incredible rates. The speed of processors has surpassed the Moore’s Law and has continue to increase in speed resulting in consumer goods going out faster than before. Another Koan about bits is that bits never go away. Bits can be stored and copied thousands of time on the internet. As storing information gets easier, the need to store more information is starting to show more on the internet. Bits can transfer and move faster than anyone could ever imagine. Information goes around faster than relaying it in the same city the information came from. Technology has both its perks and faults. Issues of Social Responsibility on the Web

            These days the amount of time spent online has been increasing ever since the 1980’s and with more time being on the computer, it also comes with social responsibility. Teenagers have grown increasingly dependent on using the internet and technology to pass the time. This is not a great thing as being on the internet distracts your mind more and makes you less focus on your goals. Teens need to make sure that they are spending enough time off the internet to make sure that your grades are good and you still interact with family more. Students have shorter mind spans now so it’s up to them to make sure that they can focus enough to do well at school. There needs to be a responsibility that you won’t meet or speak with people you don’t know online which could result bad things happening to you.

            For adults, there needs to be a social responsibility on the internet that they won’t do place anything out there that could potentially corrupt a teenager. But the internet has been doing some good for the online community if you make the right choices and remember your responsibilities. There are times when you know you have things to be done and you should do them instead of using the computer to waste time. The internet can provide you with all of the information for school that you need which is better for students in terms of time, but they need to be responsible so they will not cheat or copy. You can talk with your friends online and with technology which makes it much more convenient for people but make sure that you don’t speak with people you don’t know. Teenagers can use the internet to express themselves and have a release from the real world which is fine because reality can be too overwhelming, but to make sure that what you do on the internet won’t hurt you in the future.

Growing Up Online Notes

•        90% of teens are on the computer and internet now.
•       Kids have been spending too much time online that makes it seem a bit dangerous like online relationships.
•      The younger generation has started using the internet for escape, to show who they really are on the internet.
•        Now the internet is used for everything like chatting and looking for information.
•        The older generation has trouble with the new technology.
•        At schools when they are teaching, they installed more computers and LED projectors.
•        The attention span of teens has shortened since they are use to having things done fast and quick.
•        Social Networking is where teenagers interact with their friends and post pictures of their selves.
•       Cyber bullying and fighting on the internet has increased since people aren’t face to face with someone so it gives them confidence to bash them.
•       Teenagers are now more comfortable with having their information exposed more than the older generations.
•       Internet Crimes and predators have grown as the internet grows as well.
•       Most teenagers are aware when there are predators online that tries to contact them.
•       The concern is more about the teenagers become more participates than victims.
•      On the internet there are problems that get worse like thoughts of suicide and being anorexic since they can communicate with other people to talk about these problems.
•      Parents grow increasingly less aware of what is happening in their child’s life as they spend more time on the computer.

Thank You letter to Eventbrite!

Dear Eventbrite and staff,

              Hello! This is Angela Moy from Oakland Technical High School. We came to visit the Eventbrite Company on Friday November 9, 2012. I just wanted to personally thank you all for letting us come in and visit your company. The staff took some time off to talk to us about their jobs and I really appreciate it. I got to learn some personally knowledge about how the people at Eventbrite feel about working there and what they do. I also want to thank the staff for talking to us during their lunch break about their jobs or just to interact with us. The warm atmosphere really made me feel at home and the free leftover sushi was just amazing. If there was another chance to go back and visit Eventbrite, I will definitely take that offer and come back again.

Digital Nations

          In this movie Digital Nations, it talks about computers and how it’s affecting the generation and lives today. Parents have been speculating that their kids and more people have become immersed in the digital world as a way of life. There are some people who just can’t imagine their lived without their computers or phones, when only about 10-20 years ago all this technology was mostly for business and the wealthy people. Douglas Rushkoff who once thought that the internet and change would be good for the future generation has doubts about it now. Studies have shown from NASA that people that think they are quick at multitasking are actually slower in everything then the average person.

           In University of Massachusetts,  In South Korea, computer and gaming has become a huge part of the younger generation and continues its popularity. Kids that are in second grade are already taught how to use a computer and understand the functions of it. It has become an increasing problem in Korea, because there has been kids that have died from playing tournaments without food and drinks. This problem has also caused a decrease in the learning ability of students not just in South Korea, but around the world. It distracts the students from solely focusing on their studies and cause them to do bad at school.
